You Could be Wasting £350 a Year on Van Insurance

Research by a well known insurance comparison website has just gave us some interesting facts, but it doesn’t make good reading for van drivers.

What they have found, is that on average, van drivers who do not switch van insurance companies at renewal time are losing out, at about £350 a year.

Not only that, but even smart van drivers who do shop around…even they usually end up losing money. Do you know why? Because they don’t do it at the optimal time.

During their research, this insurance comparison website found that van drivers who make it their goal to switch insurance companies 4 weeks before their renewal date saved the most money, while those who waited right until the last minute typically paid more on average.

The good news is that the law is on your side, as your van insurance company now has to tell you what your insurance cost was last year when it comes time to renew. They also have to announce that comparing van insurance is a great way to save money.

I’ve been saying this for years of course. It appears that everyone in the government agrees with me and all of those van insurance companies do as well.

Sure, they might not enjoy having to tell van drivers to visit a comparison website like the one you are on right now, but at least they are doing the right thing.

Now that van drivers understand they are wasting £350 a year on insurance, will they actually do anything about it? Unfortunately not it seems, because in the last part of the research it clearly says that despite consumers being more educated about the benefits of comparing insurance and switching companies, most people simply put it off, or forget about it, or leave everything to the last minute.

Hopefully, you are not one of these people, and you are on this van insurance comparison website right now because you want to get the best deal.

That is our number 1 goal, and if you take a few minutes of your time to fill in the simple form, then you will instantly start getting quotes from many different companies.

You can then choose the best deal and switch companies if you need to, and although we can’t guarantee you will save £350, you don’t know exactly how much you could save until you give it a try.

Remember, don’t wait right until your renewal time to start comparing van insurance quotes. The optimal time is 4 weeks before.

Most Expensive Van Insurance? The Award Goes to…

Wondering which place has the most expensive van insurance in the UK? A recent survey has now given us the answer, and it isn’t surprising.

Before I reveal the answer, and to give you some frame of reference, let me tell you what the average cost of van insurance is right now in the UK…£1500 approximately.

Not exactly cheap is it, but van drivers have to pay those kind of figures because as we all know, it is a legal requirement to insure your van. Ignore that and you could find yourself with a fine, points on your license, a driving ban, and even in prison.

So where is the most expensive van insurance? East London to be exact, where the survey found the average price to be nearly £2000. Yes you read that right.

Drivers in East London are paying, on average, £2000 for insurance, and if reports are true, this could soon become even more expensive once new compensation laws are introduced by the government.

Van crime is becoming more of a problem of course, and London is one of those areas where van break-ins are a daily occurrence. Sure, this kind of crime can happen anywhere (and it does), it’s just that London seems to get it more.

There are many factors that determine how much you are going to pay for van insurance, such as age and experience of the driver, make and model of the van, where it is parked overnight…and so on.

It goes without saying that if you are a young driver in East London who wants van insurance then you are probably going to be paying well over £2000. Maybe even over £3000.

What can you do to get van insurance that isn’t quite as expensive? My advice is simple…use a comparison website. It really is all you have to do.

Most van drivers don’t do this however, and instead just stick with the same company year after year, or they try and compare by only going to a few different companies.

When you use a comparison website, it automatically sends your details to over 100 companies, so as you can imagine, it’s easy to get a cheap quote…even if you live in East London or somewhere else with expensive van insurance.

Don’t just take my word for it. Give it a try for yourself. It only takes around 3 minutes to enter some basic details and then you start getting quotes right away.

Van Driver Takes on Crash for Cash Gang

It is typically cars that are associated with the crash for cash scam, usually these gangs leave van drivers well alone…until now that is.

Nothing appeared to be out of the ordinary for the van driver who was no doubt on his way somewhere important, when suddenly and without warning, the car in front slammed on its brakes and caused the van to crash into the back.

There appears to have been another car in front of the one that braked, although that quickly sped off after the incident.

The collision was only at 5mph, but enough to cause a bit of damage. However, the van driver immediately became suspicious about what had just happened.

No doubt the van driver had read about these crash for cash scams before, and how criminal gangs are roaming the country looking for innocent victims.

Well, he wasn’t going to accept the blame here, and instead, decided to confront them about the fact they were trying to pull a fast one. It seems they were in no mood for a showdown, and decided to make a quick exit away from the scene.

Fortunately, he was quick thinking, and got out his phone to take pictures of the men and their car before they got away. Not only that, but he also put in a call to his van insurance company to let them know what just happened.

Long story short…and the 3 guys did try to make a claim against this innocent guys van insurance…but he didn’t just take it and decided to get the Police involved. It quickly became apparent that not all was legit here, and in no time at all the 3 guys were arrested.

It turned out they were part of a criminal gang who had been doing the crash for cash scam all over England, and they might have continued to get away with it if they had just stayed away from van drivers.

Moral of the story…don’t try and scam van drivers. You won’t win, and will probably end up in prison just like these 3 guys have.

That’s right. The 3 people in the car have just been sentenced to 17 months, 15 months and 14 months respectively, which means they will have a bit of time to think about a career change maybe? I doubt it. They will be out and about on the roads again in a few months time.

Anyway, it’s good to see people are beginning to get wise about these crash for cash scams, and if drivers, insurance companies and the Police are willing to work together, I don’t think there is any reason why there can’t be more success stories like this.

Argos Van Drivers Call Off Christmas Strike

It was all set to ruin Christmas as one of the nations favourite stores looked to be on the verge of a strike, but the van drivers have decided against it.

Initially, the delivery drivers and their representatives had voted to strike for 72 hours around the busiest time of the year in a dispute over pay. This would have left the store in complete chaos, with millions of orders that couldn’t be delivered.

The good news is that it now appears the strike is off, although the drivers and their representatives are still going to vote again on whether or not to accept the new pay offer from Argos. Experts have commented that the offer will be accepted soon and the van drivers will be on the road as usual.

Is that a good thing though? A recent video caught an Argos van driving on the wrong side of the road. I know they are in a rush to get their deliveries out, but they really should follow the traffic laws and have basic common sense in my opinion.

Maybe the Argos bosses might want to take out some extra van insurance over the next month just to make sure they are completely covered…that and some basic driver training it seems.

Whatever some might think about Argos delivery drivers and their driving skills, there is no doubt that many people will be glad to see them back on the road, getting those gifts out around the UK in time for Christmas and making sure no-one is left disappointed.

A spokesperson for Argos said, “we are pleased that both sides have resolved their issues and would like to reassure our customers that it’s business as usual this Christmas at Argos.”

Unfortunately, Argos are not the only company talking about striking this Christmas, because as you may have heard the Post Office are potentially going down this route.

Just to be clear, it’s not the Royal Mail and their hard working van drivers that are planning to strike, it’s actual post office workers who sort the mail and things like that.

From what I’ve been told, Royal Mail and the Post Office are two separate divisions, which means we can expect to see the millions of parcels get to their destinations on time because of those Royal Mail van drivers.

As for the Post Office strike? Let’s wait to see what happens there, although I think it’s possible we could see something similar like what happened at Argos, where the workers accept an offer from the company and then it is business as usual.

Van Drivers Confess in Anonymous Survey

We all know that van drivers do some things they shouldn’t now and again, but a new survey by a van insurance company shows exactly what they are up to.

The survey, which was taken anonymously by 2500 van drivers, came up with many interesting (and quite shocking) statistics.

For example, who would have guessed that 95% of those surveyed admitted to regularly breaking the speed limit? At least they are being honest, although it’s not recommended and can get you pulled over by the Police of course.

What else was admitted to in the survey you might be wondering? Interestingly, 73% of van drivers said they don’t use social media while out on the road, while virtually all of the people surveyed denied ever taking a selfie while at the wheel.

Yeah, probably a good idea that you don’t do that. However, the fact that 27% of van drivers are checking their Facebook while driving is a bit worrying.

The survey also showed that 28% of van drivers say they have driven through puddle in order to splash someone walking on the street. If you’ve ever been a victim to one of these soakings then you will probably dislike van drivers after reading that.

Some more statistics:

55% of van drivers don’t wear their seatbelt on a regular basis, especially when they are making short journey’s. Just be aware this is illegal and could result in a fine and points on your license.

70% don’t use indicators when changing lanes. You know, it’s usually a good idea to let other drivers know what you are going to do.

85% admitted to some kind of road rage within the last year, although only rarely did this result in violence. Good to hear that van drivers are not getting out of their vans to get involved in punch ups, but it does seem like overall they need to become a bit calmer.

The van insurance company who conducted the survey commented that they were surprised by the results, although on the whole they regard van drivers as safe on the roads.

“As an insurer of thousands of commercial vehicles every year, we know that the majority of drivers are extremely careful on the roads,” they said.

I agree. Yes it is a bit shocking to hear that 55% of van drivers don’t wear a seatbelt now and again or 95% break the speed limit at times, but in general they are a good bunch who follow the laws of the road most of the time.

To all van drivers out there…just be aware that if you do break the laws of the road and you do get caught, then it could negatively affect the price you get quoted for van insurance.

In order to get the cheapest van insurance possible, and to follow the laws of the road like you should, make sure you always wear your seatbelt, keep to the speed limit, don’t use mobile phones at all, always indicate and keep calm when things don’t go your way.
