As can often be the case, we see patrol vehicles on our highways slowing traffic due to a variety of reasons.

This is precisely what happened on the M6 in June this year.

He appeared in court and paid court costs and compensation of just over £500.

In addition, the court banned the driver from driving for a year and ordered him to complete 200 hours of community service.

Oh yes, and not to forget a 19 day rehabilitation activity requirement.

This is usually a requirement to reduce the prospect of reoffending.

Let’s hope the driver learns a lesson and reflects on this experience while completing community service.

This week’s news comes fresh to you from Exmouth.

A lovely English Seaside town in the South of Devon, that can get quite lively, from what we hear.

Well, lively enough for a van driver to park his van on a tidal slipway, slip off for a quiet pint or two, and forget about the van.

The driver went off for a pint, that is – not the van.

Then again, the van did go swimming, so who knows what else it’s capable of…

Unfortunately, this memory loss has cost the driver dearly.

The next thing he knew, town members had spotted his white van bobbing off into the sea.

Regrettably, he was not made aware of this until the next morning, when he returned to pick up his van.

Thankfully, the driver appears to have remained upbeat.

What can I expect to learn?

Well, firstly, the good news is that this is an e-learning course. So, as long as you have access to some sort of tech device that is capable of running videos, and can display texts and images, you’ll be fine.

The structure is quite basic and consists of only 2 modules:

  • 1: Vehicle (checks on the vehicle, fuel efficiency, loading safely and hours of the driver)
  • 2: Driver (industry, licensing, road rules, defence driving, fitness, wellbeing and safety)

If you’re a seasoned van driver, you might find yourself thinking this isn’t for you. Fair enough! However, with ever-changing rules and requirements, you never know what new fact might come in handy.
